The full spectrum of restorative dentistry encompasses both direct and indirect dentistry. The common dental material choices are composite resins and all ceramics respectively. Whatever the material choice, for a dental restoration to appear aesthetic, it has to mimic nature. Tied in with this endeavor is the essence of shade selection.
This lecture seeks to relate the importance of shade selection with each of these two commonly indicated restorations. Are there similarities or differences in the thought processes with the handling of these two dental materials?
