Prof Dimitris Strakas was born in 1975 in Volos, Greece. He received his dental degree from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and his Master of Science in Lasers in Dentistry from RWTH Aachen University. He is the founder and head of the first Laser Clinic in Greek Dental Universities, located in the Operative Dentistry Department at the Dental School of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. He is also the General Secretary of the International Society for Laser Dentistry, Vice-President of the Hellenic Academy for Laser Dentistry, and Past-President of the Greek Society for Laser Dentistry.
Prof Strakas has been an adjunct faculty member of the Aachen Dental Laser Center (AALZ) at RWTH Aachen University since 2007 and the Scientific Director of AALZ Greece since 2009. He was a lecturer for the Mastership Course of the AALZ at RWTH Aachen University and is currently a lecturer for the Mastership Course of the AALZ at Sigmund Freud University Vienna.
In 2017, he completed his PhD with excellence at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, and he is also a University Scholar of the Operative Dentistry Department of AUTH. Since 2019, he has been a visiting Professor at MISR University of Cairo, Egypt.
Prof Strakas has organized and chaired various congresses, including the 6th European Laser Dentistry Congress in September 2017 in Thessaloniki and the 17th World Laser Congress held in October 2018 in Aachen, Germany. He has many publications and articles on laser dentistry in Greek and international magazines and has translated three books on Laser Dentistry into Greek. He is a member of the Editorial Board of Lasers in Dental Science, Laser Magazine, and a reviewer for several peer-reviewed journals such as Lasers in Medical Science and Photomedicine and Laser Surgery.
Prof Strakas has given numerous lectures in Greek and international congresses, meetings, and workshops. Overall, he is a highly respected and accomplished figure in the field of Laser Dentistry.
