Abstract
Introduction
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) is a common medical condition that occurs when the median nerve may be compressed at the carpal tunnel. As dental professionals, we are at an increased risk for developing CTS due to our repetitive motions and the demands on our hands. There is an insufficient previous study on the level of awareness about CTS among dental professionals across the country.
Materials and Methods
In this cross-sectional study, 150 dental surgeons including both males and females participated from the targeted areas. A standardized questionnaire was prepared which mainly concerns CTS. The questionnaire was made available online for three days and circulated through WhatsApp. Only those who agree to the consent form could take up the survey. Once the required sample size was obtained through Google Docs, an online survey was closed. The SPSS package was used to analyse the data collected from the sample.
Results
The majority of the dentist thought that the main symptom is tingling, and numbness and they are aware of the CTS that can affect the dental professionals. Our study also suggests that dental surgeons believed minimizing the stress on the wrist would prevent CTS. The majority of the population thought that CTS could affect job performance social life and sleep.
Conclusion
The awareness of CTS was adequate among dental professionals. To further note, there is a strong relation between CTS and rheumatoid arthritis. It was contemplating that the CTS affects the quality of life.
