Abstract
The Calm Chair Method is a behavioral framework designed to change how children experience dental care. Children are not typically scared of the dentist itself — they fear not being heard and understood. By facilitating practice with modalities that replace fear with emotional empowerment, motivation, and strength-building, dental appointments can become serene memories.
The Calm Chair Method combines elements of NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming), Early Years Foundation Stage principles, child development psychology, Buteyko breathing, EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique), Theta Healing, Psych-K®, and laser dentistry. Once a child is emotionally settled, a laser-assisted, needle-free approach can then be used. Lasers as the capstone not only transform fear, but also help maintain trust and confidence — with lasers as the capstone, calm becomes the first treatment, and connection the first cure.
