CBCT-confirmed bone regeneration following non-surgical dual-wavelength laser therapy for advanced peri-implantitis
Abstract
Advanced peri-implantitis associated with extensive circumferential bone loss and Grade III implant mobility is generally considered to have a poor prognosis, with explantation often regarded as the most predictable treatment option. Whether peri-implant bone support can be biologically re-established through a strictly non-surgical laser protocol, without grafting materials, remains insufficiently documented.
Learning Objectives
- Describe the clinical characteristics and CBCT findings of advanced peri-implantitis associated with extensive bone loss and Grade III implant mobility.
- Explain the biological rationale for combining Er,Cr:YSGG laser decontamination with 940 nm photobiomodulation in a non-surgical treatment approach.
- Discuss the clinical protocol used for laser-assisted management of a severely compromised implant without grafting materials or membranes.
- Interpret the clinical and CBCT findings that documented peri-implant bone re-establishment and long-term implant stability during the 24-month follow-up.
- Evaluate the potential indications, limitations and clinical implications of biologically driven laser-assisted therapy in the management of advanced peri-implantitis.
