Course description

With the ever-increasing amount of peri-implant mucositis and peri-implantitis (19%-65%) dentists are changing their treatment planning options and looking to save more Endo and Perio involved teeth and use as stand alone teeth or as bridge abutments.

Course outline

This course will cover bridge design in the morning covering different types of design such as fixed movable, fixed, adhesive and cantilever with hands-on practical in the afternoon on phantom heads.

• Discuss the reasons why bridges fail
• Learn about the use of stress breakers 
• Choose which abutment teeth to use for best success 
• Decide whether the tooth preps need added res and ret form
• Learn when Antes Law is still applicable in 2018
• Teach you to decide when to plan fixed - movable v fixed - fixed 
• Learn the skills to provide bridges in your practice the next day

• Incorporate attachments into the bridge 
• Prepare box and grooves for added retention 
• Understand two-handed preparation

Title: Articulator Selection in Restorative Dentistry | Faculty: Prof. Paul Tipton, Dr. Adam Toft & Dr. Ashish Rayarel | Time: 09:00 – 18:00

This course is a step-by-step programme in the form of practical sessions, lectures, and demonstrations- delivering the Foundation for Private Dentistry. The course will take you through the theoretical, scientific and engineering principles behind restorative dentistry. The course is ideal if you are:

Title: Porcelain Inlays & Onlays | Faculty: Prof. Paul Tipton, Dr. Adam Toft & Dr. Ashish Rayarel | Time: 09:00 – 18:00

Course Aim

• Awareness of the materials available for Inlays/Onlays
• Understand the cavity design
• Identify the ‘bulk’ of material required for strength
• Appreciation of the retentive/resistance form required
• Provide an armamentarium to produce these preparations
• Introduce the ‘Hollow’ ground chamfer
• Identify where to place the preparation margins
• Define the rational for onlay or inlay preparation
• How to prepare, take impressions and temporise for ceramic inlays, onlays, Overlays and Vonlays

Course Objectives

At the end of this course delegates should be able to:

• Identify the materials available for Inlay/Onlay restorations
• Understand the preparation design through an appreciation of material choice
• Produce preparations which demonstrate the correct divergence and provide retention/ resistance form
• Illustrate how the correct use of chamfer bur will produce round internal line angles
• Demonstrate the correct placement and application of the Hollow ground chamfer
• Place preparation margins with an awareness of tooth contact points
• Gain an appreciation of when to extend an Inlay preparation to an Onlay preparation
• Identify the criteria for prescribing a material of choice
• Describe the bonding/ cementation rational for a given material
