Soft Tissue Changes in Orthognathic Surgery in the Digital Era: A Three-Dimensional Analysis

Time: 13:30-14:30

Abstract:

This lecture aims to familiarize participants with the fully digital orthognathic surgery procedure and its role in achieving optimal aesthetic and functional outcomes. The lecture will cover various types of facial surface imaging scanning technologies, emphasizing the use of three-dimensional facial scanners for assessing volumetric post-surgical changes. Participants will gain an understanding of the pattern of soft tissue changes after orthofacial surgery and how digital scanning is used to create a digital surgical database.

By the end of the lecture, participants will be able to describe the different types of three-dimensional facial scanners and their costs, choose appropriate facial scanning technology for orthofacial surgical planning, predict expected soft tissue changes in different anatomical regions following orthognathic procedures, and understand various intra-operative techniques to modulate post-operative soft tissue changes.

Learning Objectives:

  • To be familiar with the a fully digital orthognathic surgery procedure in achieving optimal aesthetic and functional outcomes.
  • To recognize the various types of facial surface imaging scanning technologies.
  • To understand how three-dimensional facial scanners could be used to assess volumetric post-surgical changes.
  • To recognize the pattern of soft tissue changes after orthofacial surgery.
  • To recognize how digital scanning is used to create a digital surgical database.
