Abstract
The role of the tongue has been highly underestimated in the process of growth and development of the craniofacial region. Tongue posture also plays a role in the breathing ability, sleep quality and posture of an individual. Hence, Ankyloglossia can have a direct impact on health, function and sleep disordered breathing.
New research over the last decade has shown promising results for improvements in symptoms when the ankyloglossia is corrected in combination with myofunctional therapy and other adjunctive therapies.
As dentists, we are in the best position to diagnose ankyloglossia and treat them with a team approach.
