Outmanoeuvring the anxious generation alpha child – an update in paediatric dentistry behaviour management strategies

Abstract

Behaviour management is the cornerstone of treatment planning in pediatric dentistry, where the child’s level of cooperation and ability to follow instructions directly influences how well the dental procedure can be performed including what materials can be used. Behavioral management is challenging for clinicians, who need to be familiar with a range of techniques to meet individual patients needs and be flexible in their implementation. This lecture will cover modern strategies for behaviour management which are applicable to the anxious child of today. The evidence behind the effectiveness and acceptability of these new techniques in comparison with traditional behaviour management strategies will be presented. New perspectives and strategies for behaviour management of the special needs child will also be discussed.
