CEREC Desert Fest brings digital dentistry leaders to Dubai

CEREC Desert Fest will take place on 12–13 September 2014 at The Palace Downtown Dubai, bringing together dentists and dental technicians for two days focused on chairside and laboratory digital workflows. Part of the Continuing Dental Education CAPP Series Dubai Dental Meetings, the programme is designed for beginner, advanced, and prospective CEREC users, with clinical and laboratory applications across prosthodontics, implantology, aesthetics, and digital dentistry.

Described as a first-of-its-kind event in the heart of Dubai, CEREC Desert Fest combines an intensive scientific programme with a strong networking and social component. “I am honored to be a part of such a fine group of clinicians. This looks like a fabulous event,” said Dr. Todd Ehrlich (USA), one of the featured speakers.

The programme includes a panel show on 12 September and table clinic presentations running across 11–13 September 2014. The panel show will explore how rapidly digital technology and science have converged in modern dentistry, with discussions among speakers on stage and interactive engagement with attendees both onsite and via live-stream.

Dr. Ehrlich, a long-time CEREC user, highlighted the impact of single-visit dentistry, noting the Omnicam as one of today’s most significant innovations in clinical workflow. “Make sure you get a good demo of it. You are going to be fascinated how easy this camera really works,” he said.

Another headline speaker, Dr. Bernd Reiss (Germany), a long-standing faculty member at the German Institute for Advanced Dental Studies and President of the Association for Ceramics in Dentistry, will present new dimensions in CAD/CAM dentistry with CEREC 2014. His session will address clinical possibilities in practice, system integration, and the future direction of digital workflows.

Dr. Daniel Vasquez (USA) will focus on CEREC Omnicam integration and restorative workflows, drawing from his experience as an international speaker and trainer for Sirona Dental Systems. He will discuss practical approaches to incorporating CEREC technologies into daily practice and explore how advances have expanded indications beyond inlays and onlays to more complex restorations, including implant solutions.

Additional sessions will include contemporary implant dentistry perspectives presented by Prof. Att, President of the Prosthodontics Group of the International Association for Dental Research (IADR) and President of the Arabian Academy of Esthetic Dentistry (ARAED). Dr. Josef Kunkela will present on the integration of Smile Design workflows within CEREC software and DSD Connect, reflecting his work in prosthodontics and CAD/CAM education across Europe and internationally.

Hands-on table clinics will run in small groups from 11–13 September, giving participants the opportunity to interact directly with trainers, ask case-specific questions, and troubleshoot workflows through practical demonstration. Featured table clinic sessions include:

  • Dr. Todd Ehrlich (USA), “Summer of CEREC,” focusing on skill development for current users and guidance for those exploring the technology
  • Dr. Daniel Vasquez (USA), “Explore CEREC Omnicam,” emphasizing camera handling, workflow integration, and clinical application
  • Mr. Mohammad Al-Zu’bi, RDT (Canada), “CEREC inLab Basic & Advanced Training,” dedicated to dental technicians and digital laboratory workflows, including materials and optimization of inLab systems
  • Dr. Josef Kunkela, “CEREC Guide workflow & CEREC abutments; Smile Design workflow, Digital Face Bow and Virtual Articulator,” detailing guided workflows and digital articulation
  • Dr. Munir Silwadi (UAE), “Chairside Indirect Veneers, Inlays, and Onlays: A–Z,” demonstrating end-to-end protocols using models based on real clinical cases, including bonding and restoration of endodontically treated teeth

Alongside the scientific programme, the event will feature a social itinerary designed to encourage networking. Activities include an optional sponsored desert safari on the first day and a closing CEREC Night on the second day, overlooking the Dubai Fountains.
