CAPP leads regional initiative to advance dentine hypersensitivity care across MEA

A significant milestone has been reached in improving the screening, diagnosis, and management of dentine hypersensitivity (DH) across the Middle East and Africa. The 2024 MEA Dental Experts Advisory Board, held on 29 June 2024, in Dubai, brought together twelve leading specialists from eight countries to address the growing burden of DH and to establish regional clinical guidelines for better patient outcomes.

The meeting — organized in collaboration with CAPP (Centre for Advanced Professional Practices) — marked the first regional forum of its kind across the Middle East, Africa, Turkey, and Pakistan. The board focused on developing simplified diagnostic pathways, raising awareness among dental professionals, and promoting evidence-based treatment strategies to bridge the gap between research and daily clinical practice.

Professor Hesham Marei, Dean of the College of Dentistry at Gulf Medical University (UAE), highlighted the importance of refining diagnostic approaches and treatment standards to ensure more consistent and effective patient care across the region.

This achievement reflects the combined expertise and dedication of the participating experts. Special acknowledgment goes to Charlie Parkinson for his invaluable support and active participation, as well as to Juhi Thomas and Ahmed Hamdy for their efforts and commitment. The event’s success was made possible through the outstanding organization by CAPP and Tzvetan Deyanov, whose continued efforts are shaping the future of dental education and practice in the MEA region.

A consensus statement publication is forthcoming and is expected to become a key reference for dental professionals, advancing DH diagnosis and management across the region.
