Palatal appliances with mini-implants

Abstract

This round table training provides a comprehensive overview of skeletal anchorage, from introductory concepts to advanced techniques, with a focus on practical application. Attendees will gain in-depth knowledge about temporary anchorage devices (TADs), particularly palatal appliances using mini-implants, and understand their benefits in orthodontic treatment. Current techniques and workflows will be demonstrated through clinical examples. In a practical exercise, participants will experience the digital workflow. Performing a mini-implant insertion in the anterior palate using an insertion guide and installing a metal-printed Beneslider will solidify the theoretical knowledge and improve the participants' confidence and skills in applying these techniques in their everyday practice.

Learning Objectives

After participating in this round table training, participants will be able to:

  • Explain the biological and biomechanical principles of skeletal anchorage using temporary anchorage devices (TADs).
  • Identify indications, contraindications, and advantages of palatal mini-implant– supported appliances in orthodontic treatment.
  • Understand current digital workflows for the planning and fabrication of palatal appliances supported by mini-implants.
  • Perform guided mini-implant insertion in the anterior palate using an insertion guide in a hands-on setting.
  • Install and activate a mini-implant–supported palatal appliance (e.g., a metal printed Beneslider) following established clinical protocols.
