IDR 2011

The conference was vibrant with excitement the 1^st Iraqi Dental Reunion in 10 years reuniting old friends and colleagues from dental industry from across the region. 1^st Iraqi Dental Reunion 2011 was a great success, achieving record attendance and further establishing a reputation as the dental industry's leading regional event. It took place at the Saad Palace, in a new and strikingly modern environment on 15 - 16 April, Erbil, Iraq. The conference was organized in the mutual cooperation of CAPP (Centre for Advanced Professional Practices), Iraqi Dental Association and Kurdistan Dental Association. Minister for Health, Dr. Taher Abdullah Hussein Hawrami opened the conference and expressed his pleasure to announce that this conference open the way for new business and scientific opportunities.
Dr. Raffi M. Aljobory, President of Iraqi Dental Association and Dr. Shakhawan Qadir Khoshnaw, President of the Dental Association Kurdistan greeted all participants with a warm welcome and expressed their thanks and appreciation to the sponsors and supporters of this conference. Also attending the Iraqi Minster of Health Dr. Majeed Muhammed Amin, The Dean of Erbil Dentistry College, Dr. Zewar Kasab, Hassan Muhammed Sura.

The event welcomed more than 1200 and 400 visitors including dentists and dental technicians form the government and private sector and students coming from all provinces of Iraq. Participants accumulate the latest opinions, trends and insights from industry thought leaders, shared experiences with colleagues, made new contacts and bound exciting relationships and exchange their ideas and knowledge. There was a significant presence of all Iraqi Colleges and Universities: Sulaimani, Al-Anbar University, Mosul, Baghdad Al-Mustanserriyah, Isfahan, University of Medical Sciences and Health Services Faculty of Islamic Republic of Iran, Guilan University of Medical Sciences Islamic Republic of Iran, Qazvin University of Medical Sciences Islamic Republic of Iran, Medical College Site Sadr Teaching Hospital, Kufa City, Najaf Governorate, Iraq, Sulaimani, Iraq. The main conference schedule included four plenary sessions. The scientific program offered a wide variety of topics.

Sixteen different lectures with a variety of topics being discussed. The morning of day one started with a lively session presented by Dr. Rabih Abi Nader from UAE who presented "Guided Bone Regeneration with Simultaneous Implant Placement", followed by Dr. Karim Abdo Corbani, Lebanon with two lectures: "Direct Posterior Restorations" and "Achieving Consistent Results with Direct Anterior Composite".

Dr. Kathrine Trelles from Norway presented "Er; Cr: YSGG Laser for new users in Dentistry".

The afternoon session started with Mr. Yamen Chaban from Germany presenting "Cercon Smart Ceramics".

Dr. Alain Romanos from Lebanon discussed "How to Attain Ideal Esthetic Implant Restoration?" followed by Dr. Majdi Kamil Sa'adeh from Jordan with "Dental Implants at Different Situations".

The end of the day finished by the lectures of Prof. Dr. Hussain Faisal Al-Huwaizi, Iraq talking about "Simplifying Root Canal Obturation by the E & Q Master Thermoplasticized Gutta Percha System" and Mr. Christian Stempf, France with the topic "The Advancements in Infection Control and Sterilization".

The second day started with Dipl. Ing. Raid Shihadeh from Germany / Jordan speaking of "Ankylos Tissue Care Concept" followed by Dr. John Dobbeleir from Belgium with the lecture "High Precision Implant Placement by Means of 3D Converted CT-scans; Experts at Ease".

Dr. Edward Y Rizk, Lebanon lectured about "Winning the Challenge of Mechanical Shaping of Narrow and Curved Canals".

The afternoon session started with Dr. Mohannad Abdulrahman, Iraq - "Dental Microscope - Is it so Important Device?" and Dr. Nabeel Humood Mohamed Alsabeeha, UAE talking about "Implant Overdentures: a Treatment Approach for the Edentulous Patient".

After this Mr Yamen Chaban presented his second lecture - "Ceramics - New Approach to Aesthetic Veneering".
Dr. Stefan Grumer from Germany talked about "Laser - the Modern Tool for Evidence-Based Laser Supported Dentistry" followed by Dr. Matthieu Gabriele, France - "Sleep apnea: Explanation of the Problem and Description of the Treatment by Mandibular Advancement Device."

EXHIBITION

A sophisticated exhibition accompanied the 1st Iraqi dental Reunion, featuring 22 dental companies from different countries - Germany, USA, UK, Brazil, Netherlands, Switzerland, and Turkey. 18 Distributor companies from Iraq, UAE, Lebanon, Turkey and Jordan represented 115 dental manufacturers. Participants circulated through the dynamic area throughout the conference, learning about the latest services and products, speaking with representatives from exhibiting companies and using the space as a central meeting and networking point.
